Despairing: App manager insists on 127.0.0.1 despite turning off proxy (N800)

Flashed N800 with new update. This means I lost all my software, including Privoxy.

My connection *was* set to use 127.0.0.1 as a proxy. I turned that off. But the Log shows that my Application manager continues to try to connect to 127.0.0.1.

I can get web pages, so the connection change worked.

I've installed terminal by tediously downloading each dependency. But this thing is next to useless if I can't use App Mgr to install software. I've searched for info about apt-get, but things seem to be configured differently on the N800. The repositories are listed in /etc/apt/sources.list, but this says nothing about 127.0.0.1. apt appears to normally get config settings from /etc/apt/apt.conf, but there is no such file.

*Something* on this machine is caching 127.0.0.1, despite turning off the proxy in the connection config (or even changing connections), but I can't work out what it is. Doubtless, this is easy to fix, but without help from someone who knows more about how apt works on this thing, I'm stuck.

*Please* help, if you can.

I've managed to install an xterm by tediously downloading the individual pieces. Can anyone advise me what file to change to correct this behavior? I virtually can't install any software right now.

Had you check that your tablet has a network IP and not the loop IP?
The application manager works with the IP you are been supply from the dhcp server or pool.

Yes. As I said, I can get web pages just fine.

I found this which describes the same problem, and mentions that apt-get update works, so that is a workaround for now. Unfortunately, it doesn't show any solution.

Edit: apt-get update lets me see a list of applications, but I don't seem to actually be able to install any of them.

I guess I'll stick to command-line apt for installing apps, but this is just stupid.

A bit late, but have you solved your problem?

Yes, thanks. I wound up downloading and manually installing Privoxy. Still regard this as a bit of a flaw.

Re: N800: App manager insists on 127.0.0.1 despite turning off proxy

It sounds a bit strange, I agree. Here's something though: I have two configuration settings for the same network, with and without proxy set. I just used two different names (but same ESSID), so I can easily switch between enabling and disabling privoxy.

And this works. Which leads me to believe that if you just deleted your old network configuration, and added a new one (maybe even with a different name) you should be ok.. if so, then there's something leftover in the network configuration files that hit you.

Gah. Just got hit by the same bug. I don't want to redo the account because I have a long PSK. Annoying. Off to download privoxy to an SD card.
