N800 + new firmware: no Wifi

My travails following the new firmware install continue. First, Application Manager no longer works. Now, Wifi no longer works!

I was installing a few applications via apt-get in the shell. Nothing fancy, I think the last one was gaim.

Then I noticed that my wifi connection was down. So I tap on the connection icon in the toolbar, and I get the Select connection... dialog, only the part above the line is blank (don't remember what it used to say). Strange.

Then, I click on Select connection... and -- nothing. Dialog goes away, no option to choose a wifi connection comes up, just nothing happening.

I can try reflashing again, but restoring my backup takes ages. Is there anything I can do to diagnose and fix this? Some files or logs I might look at? Some way to try connecting from the shell?

Re: N800 + new firmware: no Wifi

Followup: I found ifup and ifdown. ifup eth0 does nothing.

ifdown eth0 (as root) gives me:

cat: /var/run/udhcpc.eth0.pid: No such file or directory
cat: /var/run/udhcpc.eth0.pid: No such file or directory
SIOCGIFFLAGS: No such device

Also found if I do ifconfig eth0, I get:

ifconfig: eth0: error fetching device information: Device not found

Don't know if this is helpful.

Further: /etc/init.d/networking start (as root) does this:
Setting up IP spoofing protection: rp_filter
Configuring network interfaces...SIOCSIFADDR: No such device
SIOCSIFNETMASK: No such device
SIOCGIFFLAGS: No such device
route: SIOC[ADD|DEL]RT: No such device
done.

Re: N800 + new firmware: no Wifi

Check if the wlan driver is loaded:
lsmod

It should show at least the following:
cx3110x 50632 0 - Live 0xbf041000
umac 258372 1 cx3110x, Live 0xbf000000

If it's not loaded then it sounds like maybe the flashing didn't work properly and the initrd image didn't get installed correctly. Or something. You should be able to list the drivers:
ls -l /mnt/initfs/lib/modules/2.6.18-omap1/

Everything worked for me after the upgrade, including after I re-installed privoxy.

Re: N800 + new firmware: no Wifi

It had worked for some time after flashing.

I ended up reflashing. All fine now. But it is good to get this information up here in case it happens to someone else. Thanks.
