Reason I sold my N900
Low battery life despite the low processor speed and stepping
Maemo stability very poor compared to current phone OSes Issues with SIM card not detected in slot with no fixes as of now Fragile mini USB slot Promise of freedom with linux but the average user can't do more than on any other OS and is actually restricted by the limited number of developpers and clouded by its fanbase GUI not fluid, stutters most of the time - EVEN WHEN NO APPS ARE RUNNING IN THE BACKGROUND Plastic cover is cheap and seems that the clips are on the brink of breaking everytime I pull it out it to replace the SIM card that is not detected. SIM card holder is the worst I've seen yet, what a shame Nokia No true auto-focus when taking pictures unless button manually pressed half way beforehand Community members mock the average user Very slow updates from Nokia with none of the needed major changes are brought to the OS that has been ditched. Update failures in many phones, can turn it into a brick Windows X64 not supported for manual flashing Wrong time on received SMS No official MMS app GPS software is outdated and is pretty much useless without voice navigation GPS takes forever to sync with a satelitte unless it uses an internet connection. No such problem with the N95. Very small choice of applications in both the ovi store and the application manager Stylus fell off and got lost after 2 weeks Earpiece volume is very low and the fix is to physically make the hole bigger Music player is too primitive with no equalizer or good alternative players around, yes i've tried them all. Setting up Gmail on it is a hassle and is probably not possible Cheap resistive screen gets scratched very easily unless you buy a screen protector OVI store still not public and probably never will be MeeGo ditched, N900 left without a future Poor wifi performance considering it's "g" Problems with file transfers over bluetooth Phone gets very slow after installing more than ~15 applications ( about the whole app store) Application manager extremely slow in seaching, updating and installing Can't hard reset unless you accept the major risk of bricking your phone if done wrong, and phone can brick even if done right. Phone rarely resets when plugging it to the USB slot Possibly no more major updates Possibly no more flash 10.1 After months of complaints and threads, Nokia has not fixed most of these issues, if not any, despite the long wait. Phone is not covered (warranty) in many countries. |

Reason you sold the N900....
Not thinking in what you will get or need but showing off a new cell to get in to someone pants.... |
Re: Reason I sold my N900
OK, you don't have an N900 any more. We all wish you the best of luck with your new phone.
Some of your points have merit, all of them have been discussed to death already. Please say goodbye and then STFU. |
Re: Reason I sold my N900

Re: Reason I sold my N900
BWAHAHAHAHA!
I've used my N900 without protection for MONTHS, and the screen is flawless! What in the blue blazes are you going on about? Maemo is rock solid - I've had had it going for three weeks without reboot once and it NEVER crashed. Unlike the iPhone. Unlike the DROID. Unlike the Nexus One, where all three crashed on me much earlier than my N900. GUI not fluid - excuse me, this is a TRUE multitasking phone. What'd you expect? Want it to be fluid? Exit apps! Or tune transitions.ini for more win. Community members mock the average user, since these users refuse to wake up and use their brains, often posting the same topic OVER AND OVER AGAIN refusing to search. It won't be that different in the Android world, mon cheri. No true autofocus bit had me ROFLOL. Seriously, what the hell are you talking about? When did any other phone NOT require a half press? Granted, most HTC phones (Android/WinMo) don't need half press cause they don't even HAVE a hardware camera button! Same for iPhone. Wrong time on received SMS? Check your settings. SIM card holder is the worse? Nokia has used the exact same holder in god knows how many phones. WTF are you talking about. The one in my N900 and my 5700XM is the SAME. Promise of freedom? Having root access from the get go is NOT freedom? Then explain why every single Android device has been rooted - for freedom. Earpiece volume is very low? Check your ears - even for me who is moderately deaf it's plenty loud. No good media player alternatives? Have you even TRIED Canola2? Media Box? Poor wifi performance? What are you on? Phone slows down after ~15 applications? Stop using experimental apps, if you don't even know what they entail. Phone is not covered (warranty) - then don't buy export phones. Blame the seller, not Nokia. Can't hard reset? Check again. Once again, a troll. We won't miss you - now shoo. |

Re: Reason I sold my N900
Ok, so you don't like the N900 and have moved on. I hope your new device meets your needs. Thanks for trying the N900 but I think the problem with many users is they want instant gratification.
They want a completely bug free piece of kit and are not prepared to allow some time for the device and its apps to mature. Sure, I am disappointed by the speed or lack of it, for the N900 and the lack of communication regarding updates, etc, but I know if I switched to an iphone or similar - I would get bored after a day or so. Let's face it - the N900 is an incredible device that can do pretty much anything you want it to without having to buy apps all of the time. And because of the open source platform the N900 could potentially become an iconic piece of kit and still have the ability to run different OS as and when these clever guys port of program them. For me, I am not so much seduced by the iPhone app store as I know it will cost me in the long run although I do admit that the eye candy is nice, but realise that the iPhone took a little time to mature as well so I'm inclined to stick with my N900 as it is simply a much better device. Goodbye, but really - all you guys that are leaving the N900 - there's no need to post your leaving issues. Just move on and thanks for trying it at least. :) |
