on a linux PC:

- connect the N900 usb cable and select PC Suite mode on the device
- on your PC open a terminal and type
sudo ip addr add 192.168.2.14/24 dev usb0
- connect to your phone through ssh by typing
ssh root@192.168.2.15

works for me :)

Probably not at this point; I'm getting the impression that it takes more technical acumen than you presently have, unfortunately.

You can try the "Windows XP" section on that wiki page MohammadAG pointed to, but I'm not sure if there's anyone available to provide any more detail than what's already there. (I wouldn't know myself - I've never bothered with USB connectivity for my n900)
