Water under screen :(

Guys today it was heavily raining and my N900 got wet , fortunately I've entred a building and turned it off pretty soon, pulled out battery then cleaned with cloth. When I got home I dried it with hairdryer and turned on. everything went fine, device booted but there is a watery spot under the screen on the right..I've turned it off again and placed in a container with rice. Any ideas? will rice help me? or i need to disassemble it? :(

Thanks

Take the screen off. Take off the battery cover. There are 4 small screws that hold the slider part on. Use a very small screwdriver and unscrew them. Use force and don't strip them. There is a ribbon that connects the slider to the mainboard, just use a fingernail and it easily pops up. The whole slider part will now tilt back. Carefully but firmly unpop the hinge. There are 6 tiny screws (smaller than the first 4) holding the lcd bracket to the slider casing. Unscrew them all, firmly and with care not to strip them, and the bracket will come off exposing two small ribbons that come together into one. Be careful with this. You can fold the bracket back over the casing so that they sit side by side and you now have access to the lcd screen. I suggest just letting it sit overnight and dry naturally. You can also try to use air duster to dry it. I would recommend against applying any sort of heat to it though.

Or just let is sit. The water will naturally evaporate, albiet slowly, on its own.

I've watched John's video on youtube and he also describes it the way you did. I'll wait till morning to see how it goes I really dont want to disassemble it.

is it possible that i've damaged the screen by heating with with hairdryer?

If it doesn't appear visibly better in the morning, only then should you consider disassembly.

The screen is well protected inside its case. Applying heat (in small amounts like a hair dryer) shouldn't hurt it unless it is exposed for a prolong period of time.

Outside its case, the bare lcd may be tough, I don't know, but should be treated with the utmost care nonetheless.

well it looks like it didn't get to screen because I've touched that area and it responded, I'm thinking maybe water evaporated when i started to dry it and was unable to escape protected layer...

Put your phone in rice for 24+ hours. If you don't believe me, look it up on the internet. Rice WILL save your phone

The phone isn't airtight. If the water was able to get inside, the warmth from the phone will evaporate the water back out.

Water has stuff dissolved in it. When water evaporates, the stuff doesn't. That makes a water spot. If you get a water spot internal to the screen you can clean it, but disassembly is the only way.
