Ctrl+Shift+R portrait keyboard?
 

Does Ctrl+Shift+R work for Messaging? Can the virtual keyboard go portrait yet? Is there anyway that I can use a portrait keyboard when using the inbuilt conversations feature?

but there is vertsms !! which is an application which is portrait mode for messaging

I've seen VertSMS... I don't have an N900.. planning on getting one. How does VertSMS fit into the picture though? When I get a new message can I open it with VertSMS? If I send a message with VertSMS will it be saved in Conversations? So on... and so on.. How does that work?

There really ought to be a proper portrait keyboard, but since there is no sign of one arriving I did just implement my own for Witter, so at least you can tweet in portrait ;-)

nop it dosn save the sms there!! but if u wanna sms its better to do with the hardware keys cuz its just fascinating :D :D !!

vert sms fits well !! u cant read ur messages in vert sms !! its better u read in landscape mode it gives u more space!! rest is on to you !!

In my experience (sometimes it doesn't work), combining the Ctrl + Shift + R method and the rotate.py or rotate_app scripts can get you your portrait keyboard for SMSing.

What SHOULD be done is instead of everyone implementing their own portrait keyboard, is implementing a single keyboard and providing and api for apps to plug into and call on instead of the maemo keyboard.
