apt-get install to Sd Card (only)

hi!
is it possible to get apt-get to install to an SD CARD?

i would like to install some vanilla linux software.
i want to install some debian (armel) programs, but i dont want to fill my nand/rootfs or /opt/. i have a dedicated 8gb sd card for my n900.

could someone help?
i would rather do this is maemo than easy debian.

thanks.

Easiest way would be to get easy chroot (or easy debian if you want a premade image) and place it on an SD card.

Re: apt-get install to Sd Card (only)

I have installed easy deb/chroot [included by default! :D]. But running an installed application via CHroot still boots up the entire Easy Debian system?

Like running Synaptic or something from easy deb (icon in maemo).
Also if I do install via CHroot, does it create an icon to use like OO.o, Iceweasle, Synaptic, etc?
Sorry. I'm just trying not to slay my N900 again.

Edit: I have tried to install using (easy) Chroot.
apt-get install nettoe (network enabled tic tac toe)

Now I can not find the game. No Icon and it's not in Easy Debian...

Also: Thank you!

Re: apt-get install to Sd Card (only)

It fires up the chroot everytime you run an app.
The OOO and iceweasel icons are part of the package, you can use debbie <appname> (no graves) to run any application inside the chroot.
i.e debbie gimp starts gimp, etc...

Re: apt-get install to Sd Card (only)

Code:

sh: debbie: command not found
Thank you for your help with this.

Re: apt-get install to Sd Card (only)

Code:

~ $ debbie gimp
Starting Debian gimp
Chroot dir specified: /.debian
No image file or partition specified.
ls: /media/mmc1/debian*.img*: No such file or directory
Mounting...
using image file: /home/user/MyDocs/debian-m5-v2.img.ext2
fs type is ext2
Using ext2 file system
mounting /home/user/MyDocs/debian-m5-v2.img.ext2 on loop
.../home/user/MyDocs/debian-m5-v2.img.ext2 mounted on loop0
.
..
...
....
mount: mounting /var/run/pulse on /.debian/var/run/pulse failed: No such file or directory
Restarting Common Unix Printing System: cupsd.
Everything set up, running chroot...

Sure you got Easy Debian and Easy Chroot installed, as well as the image downloaded? (Use the debian install icon)

Re: apt-get install to Sd Card (only)

Both in my installed apps in HAM.
I use Easy Debian alot.
I'm using "Debian chroot" is that easy chroot

Edit: I've just ran "debbie gimp" from my xTerm and gimp booted!

Seems as though I can run any program installed in Easy Deb via 'debbie'.

All programs I have tried run at the same speed that they do when the easy debian system running?

This is great! Thank you so much!

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!
