Hi, newbie! N900 Pr 2.1 update woes.
 

Hi all, I really was trying my hardest not to resort to asking this question as i imagine its probally getting on quite a few peoples nerves by now, however i have searched and searched and search but yet i still cannot find a clear guide on how to update my n900 to PR 2.1 !

I am on vodafone UK, i understand that these phones are un-branded but have a voda specific product number?

NSU tells me there is no updates, and i have also tried downloading the global .BIN file and placing it in the "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Nokia\Nokia Service Layer\A\nsl_service_module_00001\vpls\www.dsut.onl ine.nokia.com.oti.caresuite\Products\rx-51" folder to see if NSU will auto install it, but no success.

After some more research, it seems that i need to use Maemo flasher 3.5 to install the update. So i downloaded the windows command prompt version of this.
Now i am stuck! i dont have a clue what i am supposed to do! How do i use the flasher to update my firmware?
Could someone give me a Dummies step by step guide to updating my n900. Last thing i want to do is brick my phone because i have read enough on google to make me think i know what im doing!!

I don't think you "searched" enough... perhaps, you're searching the wrong place.

I think vodafone UK release the firmware themselves rather than Nokia releasing it so you may not have it available if they have not released it.
I'm not totally sure on this but i think i do remember reading it here

Quick question tho.. this part :

"2a) Download the EMMC firmware.

Download the latest EMMC firmware file:
RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.13-2.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_MR0_ARM.bin
When you've downloaded it, rename the file to "emmc"

Shall i use that file or the UK specific one :

RX-51_2009SE_1.2009.42-11.203.2_PR_COMBINED_203_ARM.bin 161656233 OS 2009 version 1.2009.42-11 Maemo 5 UK variant for Nokia N900

Oh sorry, ignore that. just realised the vanilla one is 2010 so therefore a newer file.
