screen tearing in pr1.2?

anyone else experiencing screen 'tearing' when switching desktops?

mine seems pretty bad, cant remember if i had the same problem in pr1.1.

what im talking about is horizontal lines appearing when you switch from one desktop to another, its as if the phone is cheap and hardware doesnt support such complicated action, which obviously shouldnt be the case.

anyone on the same boat?

It's not the phone being cheap, it's all about the driver for the graphics chip not telling applications when it's ok to update the display.

What you see is the result. There is a thread somewhere here with a reference to some blog or forum where some Nokia employee makes a statement about this being something what will not be changed/fixed.

EDIT:

Search for "vsync".

Yea, it's always been there and wont be fixed. The N900 does not support vsync and it's not planned to be. See
https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5556
or
https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9320#c1

See bug 5556. Needs newer SGX drivers which will be available only in
Harmattan.

I found a solution that partially works, modified transitions.ini file makes device much faster and tearing is less visible. You should try it

That's not very helpful. Care to explain/comment on what you changed?

HellFlyer,

-First why you didn't put link in your post?
-Secondly how you could make any modifications to transiition.ini that affect TEARING issue. I do not understand at all :|

@ slender

1. There is an option called SEARCH , if you searched for it you wouldn't asked that question and could have helped by providing link yourself ;)
2. I said it makes tearing less visible ( at least for me) I'm not sure whether it affects but I CAN SEE difference

@jessi3k3

Copy impoved version to Nokia N900 using your PC or download it and extract to Nokia N900.

Then open terminal (you need to have rootsh installed), type sudo gainroot, hit enter then type:

Code:

cp /home/user/MyDocs/transitions.ini /usr/share/hildon-desktop/

Restart ( optional)

NOTE: Blur is removed which means background of icons in menu will look ugly if you dont use dark themes (or you can change font colour )

I've also included just in case original transitions if you wanna change back :)

To change back just add original to N900 and type the same code

Fixed in Harmattan

HellFlyer,
Yes there is search but you could still think about it a little bit. Searching thread with comments is no brainer but searching particular post with your attachement is a bit harder.

.edit
btw.
Excuse me but do you really understand what tearing and vsync mean?
