N900 not 48 hours old and broken already...
morning all.
I just got the thing yesterday and am yet to update to the new firmware, last night I went to update it via wifi and found the application manager is failing.. When you open it, it sits there for about 5 seconds then displays "operation failed". It won't let me update the firmware or install or uninstall anything. this happens using 3G or wifi. I can access the catalogues but nothing else! it says "no applications installed" i've barely touched the thing yet now it's dead in the water! very very disapointing. anyway here is the copy of my log hildon-application-manager 2.2.52.2 E: Encountered a section with no Package: header E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/downloads.maemo.nokia.com_fremantle_ovi_._Packages E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened. Try disabling Ovi catalog temporarily.

Re: N900 not 48 hours old and broken already...
Looks like an issue with the Ovi repo, possibly being caused in some way by being on an old firmware. disable the ovi repo, and try to update the device.

sudo su
cd /var/lib/apt/ cp -rf lists backup_lists #backup just in case rm -rf /var/lib/apt/lists/* # clear this folder mkdir lists/partial #restore the folder apt-get update This method helped some ppl on pc debian, but since maemo is debian based it should work also. If not then just restore the backup. cp -rf backup_lists lists I just realized something. Did you install easyroot before this happened? You need it to to get root access from terminal. |

re-enabled Ovi after the PR1.2 update and everything working well it seems. Actually pretty relieved it was so easy to do, am quite a beginner with Linux and this device in genera... Thanks to everyone for the rapid response and excellent advice  |
