n900 850MHz HELP

I’m currently considering purchasing an n900. But after reading different things on the internet I saw that the n900 doesn’t support 850 MHz. After looking on the Nokia website (http://www.nokia.com.au/find-product...specifications) I saw “Quad-band EGSM 850/900/1800/1900, WCDMA 900/1700/2100” under the operating frequency heading. After seeing this I emailed Nokia and they confirmed that this, saying “that the N900 is a Quad-band phone and supports EGSM 850/900/1800/1900”

Where I live (Australia) my network service that I use is Telstra on the NextG network (which is apparently UMTS 850 frequency). I have no idea what all these numbers and letters mean, so could someone tell me, if the n900 will work with the UMTS 850 frequency or is there is anyone in Australia with an n900 on the NextG network. I have also read on the internet were a person had an n900 on the NextG and it worked fine.

Your right, Telstra's NextG is UMTS 850 with fallback to 900/1800 GSM

Sorry it wont work on NextG but it will operate with the NextG sim on 900/1800 2G GSM band.

So if your not worried about using NextG data/internet services you will be fine, it will work for phone calls no problem. Just use Wifi for data at home and office ect..

Telstra way overcharge for NextG data anyway.

Regards
Andrew

...just get it anyways, you don't need 3.5G. wifi + 2.5G is okay.

Get an optus prepaid sim card.
Wifi + 2.5G is not a good option if you're out and about.
You need a good 3G connection.

I have a NextG sim in my N900, at it's reporting 3G, and 3.5G when connected to the telstra.internet APN.

This is in a capital city (Melbourne), where the only conclusion I can reach is that they also have a 2100MHz service here. Haven't tried it in the country yet.
