facebook notification alerts on the n900 vibrate or sound?

i currently monitor my facebook alerts in two ways, the first is the facebook app, not particularly great but if nothing else it is a short cut to facebook, the second is by the built in rss reader on maemo, this grabs the rss notifications list and is great because it tells me a brief title of the notification and if i click it, it takes me directly to the content, for instance the commented picture. however what i would really like is what Iphone users have, when my friends on their iphones receive a notification their iphones beep in a similar way to getting a text message etc.

is there any way on the n900 to get a similar notification? perhaps a text message beep with the blue flashing alert LED?

thanks

Re: facebook notification alerts on the n900 vibrate or sound?

iphones' notifications require more than just a device. if you look at apple's SDK, it has a bunch of infrastructure (apple's servers, and the ISV's servers) working together to push notifications to the phone.

and this makes sense because it's one of the best ways to solve the "always-connected-but-sucky-battery-life" problem.

so there's currently no way for the n900 to do this unless it remains always connected and polls facebook.

btw, isn't there an SMS interface for facebook?
