Re: Video Codecs
You must be using the wrong codec or something  I have never had any problems playing any type of video except wmv.

Re: Video Codecs
Media Player is pretty selective about what clips it will play. MPlayer will play many clips that Media Player refuses. The MPlayer discussion and download link is here. Your videos may have the wrong fourcc. I use a fourcc of "DIVX" with good results. Using a divx codec does not guarantee the output file will have a fourcc of "DIVX" I've seen "DX50" and "FMP4" fourcc's even though the video data is equivalent. Also, Media Player refuses to play videos with heights or widths that are not multiples of 16. MPlayer is not affected by either of these limitations.

Re: Video Codecs
thanks for the help , works like a charm only problem is the video is choppy... any suggestions?

Re: Video Codecs
What are the resolution / frame rate / bitrate of the content you are trying to play?

Re: Video Codecs
I'm having the same issue with munky261. I have a 704 x 396 AVI file, which the built-in Media Player won't play because apparently 396 is not a multiple of 16. Now mplayer does play it, but like in his case, the video is choppy. So choppy in my case, that it's totally unwatchable. Go figure...
The file size is 500+ MB, if that matters. |
Re: Video Codecs
My best results with mplayer have been with a size of 400x240, bit rate of 512. I occasionally get a hiccup every 3-5 seconds but I found that when I set the N800 to "Offline Mode" (hit power button briefly and the "Device Mode" menu pops up), the video plays well. It is my understanding that Offline mode turns off the wireless and bluetooth radios which apparently poll for service every few seconds, thus using system resources and possibly causing a glitch in the player. Of course if you are streaming the video from another source via wireless, this trick does not apply!!

Re: Video Codecs
I convert everything in video converter first. My desktop cpu cycle is cheap and I get to space SD card space. Actually a bit of divx with weird audio condec chock video converter, I have to run it through virtualDub first.

Re: Video Codecs
my only issue with mplayer now is i cant stand the interface , i want something simple like the included media player. only other thing is some video files seem to want to get the audio out of sync
