Replacement N900 from Nokia will not Boot
 

Hi,

I just received a replacement N900 from Nokia. The original one was replaced since the USB port was broken.

I turned on the device and while loading I see the dots running and then after few seconds, when the second dot from the left is emphasized, the device stucked and turn itself off.
I tried to reflash the device and go the same behaviour. I reflashed the emmc as well and got the same behaviour.

The battery is full, and when I plug the device to the charger or to a PC USB cable the device turn itself on and get into a reboot cycle (which I can stop only when I unplug the cable).

I tried the R&D mode solution (switch to R&D mode and boot) but the boot is not finished in this mode (the dots are running and boot is not finished).

I'm really pissed off now since I bought the device from Nokia USA and I live in Israel and Nokia USA are not willing to send a repaired / replaced device outside USA, so I had to find an arrangement to get the replaced device back to Israel by myself and I realy don't want to do it again.

Does anyone have an idea how can I fix this problem by myself??

I have 2 x N900's with no warranty!

bought one new when 1st released, the 2nd a few wks ago..

no problems thus far

I have no suggestions, sorry.

As you never explained what happened when you flashed the images if you got it to boot or not but if the image flash is not done properly then it will stay in the same reboot situation so i suggest you flash the Fiasco image only again and report how you flashed and the results.

I already flahsed the fiasco several times. The flash is always successful.
Booting the device after the flash will stuck the device the second dot (same behaviour when I got the device).

When I tried to switch to R&D mode, the dots are running but the boot never finished (i waited more than 10 minutes).
Disabling the R&D mode (after it was enabled of course) will cause the device to get stucked even before the dots phase and I need to reflash the fiasco in order to preserve the old state (where I'm getting stucked on the second dot).

make sure you flash the vanilla image also.

Which version did you flash? Maybe you should try a different one...

The only image needed to reset the OS is the Fiasco image and it can be any one from the list, the emmc is the rest of the file system and not needed to get the device up and running normally.
If you have flashed successfully and the flashing program reports 100% then as long as you leave the -R on the flash command line the mobile will automatically restart and boot to the desktop.

You say you rebbot but the device will reboot automatically if as i said you leave the -R on the end of the flash command so how does it reboot? you have to or does it try to boot itself?.

If you have done all this and it still does not boot fully then i strongly suggest you get it to an engineer knowing your circumstances as the usb port could still be faulty, i would love to see this N900 you got but alas i am not in Israel.

Maybe someone else can come up with something here.

I tried both 1.2 and 1.1.1.

This is not the device i sent them.
They told me they were unable to solve the USB problem and the device was replaced. I got a different IMEI.

i'm sorry to hear about that! but it sounds like Nokia sent you a faulty device!

If you cant get it to work you might want to consider getting it fixed in israel, a lot of private companies are selling the device(thats how i got it) and they all have service labs. It might be just around the money you will spend on shipping it back to Nokia US, also you might have a problem with customs if your device had been replaced.
