Where are Apps installed

Hello real newbie question & I suspect I am going to seem very stupid but here goes. I use app manger on N900 to download wifi switcher app and all seems well but where is the app installed as I cannot actually find it.
I select grid and cannot see wifi-switcher

The Wi-Fi switcher is not really an "app" that you can launch.

It will appear in the status menu. That is the menu that appears when you tap on the status bar - the little place with the current time and little icons.

To answer the question in the topic title: apps are (or should be) installed to the /opt folder on the device. Note that it is unreachable from the default file manager as users shouldn't really mess around with it.
Although you can go there from a root terminal.

Thanks Venemo. And that is where 'simple-brightness' app is too. I guess games will appear through selecting grid.
Thanks again.
Kind Regards,
Paul

Hey Paul,

I'm happy I could help.
Most of the apps are made to be shown where they can fit in the best - eg. utilities that you could use anytime in the status bar, some stuff in the Settings, the widgets in the "Add widget" menu, and yes, generic apps are in the application menu. (The grid with the icons.)
