n810 Loose headphone jack / Torx size?

Hello, all.

My n810 headphone jack is loose. When I wiggle the jack (not the headphone cord or plug), the sound alternates between coming through the headphones and coming through the n810 speakers.

I think a solder joint has probably broken loose.

If it happens that I need a whole new jack, where do you think I can get one?

Also, I'm having trouble determining the Torx size I need. Surfing the web, I've seen commentsthat suggest T4, T5, and T6. What's the correct size or the n810?

Thanks.
Steve.

Pretty sure its a T4, there are schematics and service manuals floating around on these forums. PM me if you need them.

Thanks, cedar!

I did a forum search and found the following link to the schematics and service manuals:

Service Manuals for N770, N800, and N810

Service Manual 1 gives me the answer: T4!

Thanks again! You have helped me immensely!

Steve.

T5 works best for me to tighten the screws on the stand. T4 may be able to turn the screw but T5 was a better fit on my N810.

Thanks, fragos.

That's good to know. Too bad I already ordered my T4 from Amazon!

Will do the best I can with that.

Thanks!

Steve.

NewAtThis, did you manage to fix the jack?
i guess it's just a matter of time until that jack goes bad. mine lasted 2 years and a month; i tried to plug my buds in and out as rarely as possible. all my mp3 players broke like that. i remember reading about fiddling around with a needle and trying to rebend the metal contact inside. that worked, but only for about a minute. i also found this:

has anyone replaced their audio jack? part source? tia.
