Kill Unecessary Apps and Services?

Is there a definitive guide to slim down the running applications in Maemo (PR1.2)?

I'd like to have the minimalistic ability to only run what is absolutely needed and trim down processes and services, without compromising the stability of the phone.

Any tips on gaining RAM and virtual memory would be greatly appreciated!

I'll say one thing. This is linux, it manages memory a whole lot better than windows.

Not that I'm aware of. Nokia already put a lot of effort into minimizing what must be running to max battery life. Probably not much more you can cut without sacrificing functionality.

Widgets, bluetooth and/or wifi enabled when you don't need them, stuff like that, you can cut that down. Run top, htop or Conky to see what's using memory and other resources.

It's pretty minimalistic out of the box. The only fat you can trim would be to:

1. Customize or disable the tracker service...it's poorly configured by default and can eat system resources like crazy with this configuration.

2. Customize transitions.ini to tone down the eye candy.

Re: Kill Unecessary Apps and Services?

over the last week i have noticed my battery fall much more quickly than it did previously. I even reflashed rootfs yesterday but the downward slope as viewed in batteryeye and the speed that the battery expires is much more noticeable.

i have installed htop but what sort of thing do i need to look out for? Is it memory intensive or processor intensive processes that eat up the battery?
Is there a know app or apps that zap and drain the battery above the norm?

I have the usual battery saving tips employed and autodisconnect installed. Any pointers gratefully welcomed.

thanks...
