N810 - No video will play
 

Hi,

Have an N810, and it won't play video at all. I've used Canola and MPlayer, but both just won't play any files, divx or xvid, converted or native resolution. The closest I got was when I transferred an unconverted Xvid file and it played, but with broken video and perfect audio. Really driving me nuts, as I really want to use it to watch video!

Anyone? This thing won't play any video whatsoever, in any format. It just either works for a second and audio breaks, but mostly it just gives a blank screen.

Have you tried a properly-sized .avi? Have you tried uninstalling and re-inst'g mplayer? Did it used to play videos?

Will it play the built-in Nokia video? (sorry, can't remember the name....I deleted it)

Not sure if this is the same issue but MediaBox, Canola, and mYTube don't download youtube videos at all, and I couldn't get my uPnP server to stream a video when it worked fine last week (havent tried since it failed though). Did youtube update the api?

Yes, they did. MediaBox 2010.07.29 on Diablo works with YouTube again.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I've tried everything. Won't play standard Divx or Xvid, converted or full size. Just a blank screen that goes from 0:00 - 0:00 then nothing, as if it can't read the file at all. Same on standard app or Canola or Mplayer. Playing from both Internal and External memory.

I even flashed my N810 last night to stock OS2008 latest official version, and still it doesn't work at all. Starting to get really cross now as I bought it solely for web/video!

My housemate has the N800 and it plays videos mine won't but I just don't understand.

Still wondering if it plays the Nokia movie that your flashing of the unit included. Also, whether you have tried AVI files. Try N800 Video Converter, with .avi output at 400x240. I've never tried divx or xvid, don't know if they work; but the rest of the unit working but just not video seems weird.

You might give MediaBox a try....

It allows you to change the back end player for the video (mplayer, ossomedia, gstreamer) in the settings.

I have very good luck with Handbrake 9.3 or below (>9.3 no longer has AVI as an output container) with the following encode settings:

avi 400x240, @ 650-700kbps, mp3 audio @ 128-160kbps (Xvid)

You might also try a small MP4 (h264) video from Tekzilla (on Revision3)


Have you tried a video that your roommate's N800 is known to play?
