Potential Interest - unique situation
Hey folks! So, I have been researching various smart phones to meet my particular situation.
Currently, I am in the United States, and I will be moving to Germany for two years. My need is the following. I would like my family to contact me easily using various Skype services. I am going to get a SkypeIn Online Number in my local area, so that whenever my family calls my online number, they won't be charged additional except the local phone plan, which is unlimited. While I am in Germany, my family can call the local number, and the call would be routed to my cell phone (n900), thus avoiding paying any international call. Now, to achieve that, I need a cell phone with proper Skype integration and a phone plan that has a good 3G connection, which does not prohibit Skype. I have heard that O2 Germany allows using voIP services in their 3G network. Assuming this is true, can I buy an unlocked Nokia n900 from Amazon in the United States, bring the phone to Germany, insert the SIM card from the O2 cell phone company, and have my needs met? Also, I am planning to use the cell phone for the next two years. Will there be any possibility that Skype support on the n900 become obsolete? Everything I have asked should work in principle, but I wanted to ask the n900 users for their insight. Thank you and Cheers! |
