Decreasing Bluetooth Range

Is there a way to decrease the range of bluetooth on my n900. I have blueproximity installed on my pc (software that locks the computer if your phone is too far away). The settings for blueproximity have been dulled way down (it is supposed to lock when distance = 0), Yet I have to be halfway down my street before my computer will lock. I would like to solve this problem on the maemo side rather than the pc side as I can only imagine it is also chewing up a lot of unneccisary battery power.

I'm guessing the polling done on your pc is too low of a rate. So it doesn't realize you have left until you are halfway down the street. Bluetooth isn't spec'ed farther than 10m I think. I am just guessing based on how I would implement it.

I thought the polling on my PC was the issue to begin with however it is not. My old Sony Erricson used to lock it as soon as I left the room and so does my girlfriends LG. As for the crisp packet Idea lol pure genius I have an external usb dongle for the blue tooth which I took the insides out and wrapped them in cling wrap and then in alfoil and replaced the casing... not an ideal solution, but it will do.

Does anyone know, how wide is the range of N900's bluetooth?

The N900 has a range of about 9-10m. The E71 has a better range (about 10-11m) and it can punch through 1 floor of concrete.
