Where is Backup application?

This is probably very stupid question, but something strange is going on my N900. I can not find the backup application anymore. Even when I go to application manager and start typing "backup" there is no such app under installed nor uninstalled applications.

:-(

Re: Where is Backup application?

It's part of the operating system and cannot be found using the Application Manager... ;)

It's under "System" if You're using MyMenu. If not look for "Backup" in Your menu.

Where do I found "my menu"?

The only other place than list of application is the "wrench" icon which gets me bunch of utlilities, but backup is not there.

Thanks for your help so far!

Re: Where is Backup application?

You don't NEED to install MyMenu... ;)

I just said IF You had it installed Backup would be under the System icon...

Otherwise it *should* be in there along with the rest of the apps. Maybe You've moved into a sub-folder or something?

The "wrench" icon is the Settings utility (also part of the OS).

Re: Where is Backup application?

The problem is that it is not with the rest of my applications. I remember it was there few months ago when I bought N900, but it is not the case anymore. Can it be started from terminal? What is the name of the app?

Re: Where is Backup application?

It WORKS! Perfect ... I thing my "menu" got corrupted somehow. Where it's data is stored anyway - i might be able to add osso-backup manually.

THANKS for your help DrWilken.

Re: Where is Backup application?

No problem (there's a "Thanks!" button)... ;)

There is some info here.

EDIT -> This could work (though the post is a bit old).

The menu list is in this file -> /etc/xdg/menus/hildon.menu but I don't have any entry with backup in the name.

EDIT - See next post instead... ;)

Re: Where is Backup application?

Do You have the .desktop file for osso-backup?

It should be placed at this location:
/usr/share/applications/hildon/osso-backup.desktop

It contains this:
Code:

[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Version=1.0
Type=Application
Name=back_ap_feature_name
Comment=back_ap_feature_name_thumb
StartupWMClass=osso-backup
Exec=/usr/bin/osso-backup
Icon=general_backup
X-Text-Domain=osso-backup
X-Window-Icon=qgn_list_backup
X-Window-Icon-Dimmed=qgn_list_backup
X-HildonDesk-ShowInToolbar=true
X-Osso-Type=application/x-executable
X-Osso-Service=com.nokia.backup

I think the menu entries are generated on a reboot using the .desktop files. It can also be done manually, but I don't remember the command... ;)

You can actually see it in the file I mentioned earlier (/etc/xdg/menus/hildon.menu):
Code:

  <!-- Search only in the hildon directory. -->
  <AppDir>/usr/share/applications/hildon</AppDir>
  <DirectoryDir>/usr/share/applications/hildon</DirectoryDir>
