SSH Switcher in Extras-Testing questions
 

SO I found this today while searching through the repo. I know what this app is supposed to do, but do not see why this is useful. I mean I use SSH to access a router and issue a WOL and then use ssh to tunnel a VNC connection.

I had a SSH connection active when I used this app to "disable" the SSH daemon, and nothing happened. The connection was still fine.

So what exactly does this app do, and why is this a good thing?

I believe the switcher is for controlling an OpenSSH server running on the N900, where as you seem to be using only the OpenSSH client, to access remote servers. The idea for the switcher would be that you might not want the SSH server running all the time on your N900 (possible security weakness for bruteforce, might eat up battery during the bruteforce attack), so you have an easy way to start and stop it. hope this helps.

It's name isnt clear.
It switches/disables the SSHD daemon, not the device's SSH client.
In other words, disabling it prevents inbound SSH connections to the device (assuming you actually have an sshd server installed on it), it doesnt prevent outgoing ssh client sessions.

I've installed it, Can't find any icon or command... where is it?

Press the statusbar and you'll see it in the menu.

Thanks for the feedback folks. Makes perfect sense now. Yeah at present I only need a client, so I'm not running a server of it. Aside from my misuse of it the app, it is done nicely.

I don't see it...and whats worst I can't get root anymore!

su
su: must be suid to work properly

When I was installing it asked for root password to create one, but why I sadenly lost su capabalilites (no gainroot as well)

Ok sudo su get me to root.... now any one knows how to fix
