Does reflashing repair bootloader and partitions?

Hi!
I am doing some experiments with my N900 to get a native Debian to run.
First I was debootstrapping to /home/debian
But I will have to change partitions and install a bootloader (grub).
If this all fails, will reflashing repair (reset) the partitions and install
the original bootloader, or is the device bricked then?

the reflashing should put rootfs in order and emmc should restore everything else. not 100% sure though if it can repartition storage...

the eMMC should wipe the entire 32GB flash with all it's partitions and restore the original partitioning

not sure about the bootloader(it probably will), but since it is already bricked there's no reason not to try

I have installed bootmenu. But I cannot find the device entry for /home/debian to boot it.

So, now just the kernel is missing.
I have the choice frome these:

linux-image-2.6.32-5-versatile 2.6.32-15
linux-image-2.6.32-5-orion5x 2.6.32-15
linux-image-2.6.32-5-kirkwood 2.6.32-15
linux-image-2.6.32-5-ixp4xx 2.6.32-15
linux-image-2.6.32-5-iop32x 2.6.32-15

I think none of this will run.
