Help! cant reflash n900!
 

after installing mobilehotspot i restarted my phone, it didnt work went black screen doesnt work at all so i thought of reflashing it so i connected n900 to usb while U is pressed nothing happens doesnt got to bot mod ... any ideas on how i can reflash it or fix this?;'(

PS: i left my n900 connected to the pc the nokia screen comes up after like 10min for 1min and then goes all black again

Ok, do the following:

1. Fully charge your battery
2. Open Flasher 3.5 on your PC
3. Turn off your phone and open the keypad
4. Hold U for 5 or 6 seconds, then plug in the USB cable and keep U held down until you see the NOKIA screen with no backlight.

You are now in flash mode

James_Littler i did all of that the phone doesnt responde anymore and i dont of bettary is full or not cuz i cant turn the phone but i left it connected on the charger for days so i dont think its the battery

I also have the problem.
I don't know what could be the reason. I haven't installed any risky applications lately.
I have:
Faster Application Manager
Case File Manager (haven't used it at all, just looked at it)
PeQersi (haven't opened this day)
modRana (it couldn't be the reason, I had it for many days)
Location Test (installed long ago)
Fennec 2 (I don't think I started it today)
Maenotify

So, what occured?
I had about 75% of battery. I plugged in USB cable from computer. It blinked yellow, as usual. Then, after a while, I wanted to do something with it (turn on Mass Storage mode). But the screen was and is black. I can plug N900 in and out, I can press power key or open/close camera or slide the slider, it doesn't react.
It seems at first that it just lost connection to screen. But then, long pressing of power key would make it to turn off or on, and the LED would blink white, and it doesn't.
I'm going to charge it fully until the LED is green, and then, maybe, try to flash it. But I doubt that it will be able to get to flash mode. I cannot even guess whether it's turned on or off.

I don't want to lose MyDocs! I don't want to lose my photographs, sketches, notes!

And I don't want to lose contents of /opt/modrana/tracklogs!

What should I do?

I have already flashed once previously, so I have flasher and 1.2 Maemo 5 image. And it didn't remove contents of MyDocs in that old case, if I remember right.

But what about /opt/ directory?

I have never overclocked N900 or used custom kernel for it.
I have even default transitions.ini.
The only unusual thing I did _this day_ was several hours before the problem. I restarted hildon-desktop several times. But it didn't show any problems at all.

I'm going to sleep, and to charge N900 at night. If it works, it will, at least, show green light in the morning (no battery can charge whole night). And then I'll see whether its screen is still obstinately black. And check replies. What else can I do?

I'll probably have to flash without battery in N900; will /opt/ directory be lost during flashing? MyDocs will not, under normal conditions....

You can't start the N900 or flash it without battery. You can't flash without full-ish battery.

Also, in any circumstance where you suspect the battery has been drained too low, or charging issues in general, use the included wall charger and not USB to a PC.

Under "flash without battery" I mean: take battery out, press down 'u', plug USB into device, put battery into device.

I was going to charge it during night with wall charger.
Battery couldn't have been too low: it was not less than ~75%.

But yes, it was battery issue, and I didn't have to flash the device.
For some reason, my friend offered to take the battery out of the device, let the battery cool (it was quite warm), and put it back into device (in the end, it was the only possible course of action without flashing). After that, device was able to start normally.

I hope this experience helps others.

embty, I had that problem too. After weeks of getting nowhere, I contacted the online store where I bought it from (thankfully there is a thing called warranty). I then sent my phone back to the store which in turn sent it to the Nokia headquarters in Finland. All in all I had to wait about a month..

Yeah it was painful to live without it, but...
