Direct new programs to SD card

I am used to my Symbian OS and know how to do all the things you need to do on it. I have just learning some of this stuff on Linux OS phones. Used to be on Symbian phones that when you downloaded a program you could choose between installing on the device or the SD card. I haven't seen this option on my N900.

Any advice please???

Thanks,
Bob

Re: Direct new programs to SD card

Applications cannot be redirected to the external SD card without a fair amount of work, and if you do it you won't be able to safely remove your SD card without shutting down.

Not saying it is impossible, but difficult and problematic.

The N900 acts like a regular Linux distribution and uses a package manager to install software to the file system. The N900 works around space limitations by redirecting software to /opt, but this has to be done by the software developer before release.

Ok thanks. Just takes a bit of getting used to the differences. I had the same thing with my Asus Linux Netbook, but I really like it and am getting used to it more all the time.

Thanks,
Bob
