[Recommend] Best device for CS student?

Any device recommendations in the current market for students studying Computer Science? Of course something that will be of assistance and help further their studies beyond what a laptop provides?

Developing for mobile isn't necessarily the #1 factor but maybe important to consider as many students head up this route of opportunity.

For example, what other mobile devices offer X Terminal?

I think the N900 is a good choice. One of the earlier devices in the series (770, 800, 810) might also be worthy of consideration, if you're just looking for an Xterm, especially if you have wireless access where you are.

it really depends. Assuming you are in the US, many computer science departments have vendor lockin and will require lots of microsoft tools. Some depts start you off with visual basic some start you off with java.

If you are technically adept, the n900 could be a great school aid no matter your subject area, but it won't necessarily be integrated with anything you are doing in CS class specifically.

It has been a few years, but I have seen very little linux around the US undergraduate CS programs.

thats my 2 cents

It's not for me... it would be for a 2nd year University student.

Hmmm... perhaps the alternative learning of Linux is the best benefit.

Thanks.

I am currently a CS student in the UK, and my chosen device is the N900. I am studying OOP using Java atm, so I don't think the N900 is particularly relevent to my studies. However, I have been learning Python and Qt in my spare time, and intend on developing applications for Maemo/Symbian, having completed a couple of personal desktop projects.

Besides the N900, I also have a HTC Desire, which is a nice device, but I consider the Maemo platform to be superior for anyone interested in computing. I see more opportunity for learning and experimentation with Maemo, so I would recommend giving the N900 a try.
