Converting videos
i find myself wondering what's the largest resolution you can have that can be played on n900. it seems to be a mixed bag. sometimes i can play a 720 res video but unable to play a 480 res video file with the same format.
what do you guys use for converting it. currently have a total video converter for my conversions |

Re: Converting videos
I tend to use ffmpeg, or derivatives there of. Handbreak being a good example.

Re: Converting videos
I've two more suggestions:
1) For default mediaplayer, Install decoders-support 2) Instead of default mediaplayer, try SiB and change to mplayer core. It may save a lot of effort in conversion. Hope this help. |
Re: Converting videos
mplayer doesn't use any acceleration yet though does it?
I find mpeg4 in an mp4 container to work best. And if your source material is 16:9 then 800:448 retains all the picture, with letter box formatting. The wiki is helpful with this stuff. http://wiki.maemo.org/Video_encoding |
Re: Converting videos
currently installing decoders, i still want to give the preset player a chance :p
waiting for the final vlc player as well |

Re: Converting videos
You can check this link (Some video-playback tests on N900) for a few playback tests. See how it works for you.
If you are on Linux, I would suggest using mencoder for decoding. |
Re: Converting videos
currently having problems with playing mp4 files recorded by my device. already tried kmplayer and sib as well but my phone still says it doesnt support it.
i can reset ithe phone to play it but after a few minutes it reverts back to file unsupported. this only happened just now. and it feels so stupid for a phone to unable to play it's own recorded video files |
