Worn simcard causing heat

I have this pretty old simcard, used in several phones over the years and its kinda worn-off

My girlfriend noticed when using my simcard for updating OTA (i have this free internet over 3G thingy) on his Nokia 5230 was heating up than normally... (after updating ofc.)

Does it take more voltage to get proper connection to simcard when its warn-off too much and cause heat? My N900 is kinda warm even on idle.

Is your N900 overclocked? Maybe you are having some non killed tasks in the background and you think it`s idle. This happened with me last week. Also, I have a pretty worn sim too, I used it for 3 phones I had, and it shouldn`t cause heat...

but how do you explain heat on 5230, nothing similiar with new simcard on that.

the heat is not too much but i am more worried about batterylife, heard from someone, somewhere... that worn simcard drains battery cause it needs more voltage to connect due bad surface @ simcard

i dont even bother to try new on N900, cause it heats up anyways so might not be noticeable.

oh... OC @900

the worn sim means less contact area -> creates some kind of resistor -> thus heating since the nergy has to go somewhere.
either put some paper below the sim to get it closer to the contacts, increasing contacts area, or better, get a new sim.
your provider should send you a replacement for the old one, and if it's taht old a new one might have the additional benefit of using less power (5v vs 3.3v or so)

Well, yeah but you should try a new sim card anyway. I worked some years with photography, and I noticed that some flashes used to have less battery life than other because of heat, considering it helped oxidating it. At 0 degrees for example, you shouldn`t have considerable loss of capacity in some months, but, let`s say, in maybe 4 months with an extreme condition of 50 degrees ( !! ) you would be losing around 40 %.
Sorry for bad english =p
