Fennec 2.0
Pre-alpha builds now available, alpha in a few weeks and beta during "the fall" (Autumn as we like to say in Blighty, or Sep-Nov).
http://limpet.net/mbrubeck/2010/08/1...ha-status.html Lots of architectural changes that should improve performance and responsiveness. Installing via the nightly repository fails for me (apt-get complains about an unhandled exception), however I was able to install the US build from the deb. |

Since I mostly use Opera Mobile these days (can't remember the last time I started MicroB) it's no big deal to have an alpha version of Firefox/Fennec on the device to see how it progresses and progress is expected to be quite rapid. |
Re: Fennec 2.0
I've found it to be a tad faster and the scrolling is much improved(almost in class with MicroB). The loading speed is also acceptable. You can also scroll around without any issues while loading sites. However site loads take some time, I'm not sure why though since the site appears to be loaded completely(maybe because its not finished yet).
Also I tried the QT version but it crashed once I tried to load a page so I would recommend the GTK version. |
Re: Fennec 2.0
The random segfault is still exist at qt version, so unusable.

Re: Fennec 2.0
Since Firefox 4 b3 with Direct2 and DirectWrite acceleration produces results very close to the IE9 preview results on their own demos, and since a OpenGL rendering version is in the works (though not with that performance due to the nature of OpenGL (almost no 2D acceleration)), I have high hopes for the next Firefox/Fennec releases. These features are switched off by default though.

Re: Fennec 2.0
the scrolling speed on webpages is mighty fast. That is indeed an improvement. Final version will hopefully brings lots more.
