[request]provision for switching auto updates on and off on app manager.
hey everybody,
well, the thing is in my country (dubai) data package is EXTREMELY expensive..5 euros for 10 mb :( i use that 10 mb for gtalk ONLY. so one time i log in, the phone automatically looks for updates on my phone. that takes up 12 MB!(i have to pay 5 euros for every extra mb :@) THIS is a serious kill joy. it would be great if we can make the app manager have an option if we WANT it to look for updates or not. wow that is seriously expensive data! i'd make sure i was near a wifi point when it was due to update!
on that note - i have read threads on here relating to changing the time the auto update checks (seems to depend when you power-on for the first use), believe they achieved this through a script but dont quote me on that, perhaps finding this thread may shed some light on a possible solution fou. |
Re: [request]provision for switching auto updates on and off on app manager.
i know right!
yeah please let me know as soon as you get solid info on this. it kills me to see extremely limited 10 mb go to COMPLETE WASTE cuz of some STUPID app. |
Re: [request]provision for switching auto updates on and off on app manager.
usually i grudge hunting out links for people, but since just searching for it may cost you the price of a pint i'll do this one and you can buy me one if i'm ever in dubai! ;)

or....
Disabling Auto Updates Check You may want to disable the automatic software updates checks that occur upon internet connection, in order to consume less bandwidth when using 2G/3G connections. You can do so by editing the gconf file found in /var/lib/gconf/apps/hildon/update-notifier and changing the check interval from 1440(24 hours) to a much larger value. The value must not exceed 4,294,967,295: gconftool -s --type int /apps/hildon/update-notifier/check_interval NEW_VALUE |
Re: [request]provision for switching auto updates on and off on app manager.
Run this in terminal:
gconftool -s --type int /apps/hildon/update-notifier/check_interval 2147483647 2147483647 is the max value for me. |
