[Request] Battery Expires Widget
With that great Battery eye app showing the decline of the battery is it not possible to create a desktop widget that will calculate the battery expiration time?
Could someone develop an app that will give a time of when the battery is likely to expire based on the current usage. Basically, whatever you are currently running at the time the battery expire widget would show you a time when it will reach 0%. Or be able to configure it to warn or alert you when it reaches 5%. This could be useful for estimating if you need to take a charger or extra battery with you when going out. It would also be useful for ensuring that you can have enough battery power all day by warning you that a running a current app or browsing the net will mean that your N900 will run out of juice before you can get home. Any takers? |
Re: [Request] Battery Expires Widget
Or the widget could also state something like:
'4 Hours Remaining' with the understanding that under the current usage the battery will expire in 4 hours. It would be a useful widget. Anyone else see its potential? |

+1 for this feature sounds like a good idea

Re: [Request] Battery Expires Widget
IMO, the app should check the %decrease in battery over the last 10-15 min for example and calculate the remaining time based on the remaining charge. and maybe it should update the numbers every 2-3 min to increase accuracy.

Re: [Request] Battery Expires Widget
When I first saw and N900 video demostration I noticed that they had something like that installed, but I think they removed it because that feature will betray them about the battery life. Anyway, check out this:

Re: [Request] Battery Expires Widget
Yes, I've just ask for the same within another post, this would be great to know which effects does the disconnection of IMs, the decrease of the brightness, or others in battery time.
As it happens with netbooks (at least with mine), I can see that without wifi, with underclocked atom, and a lower bright the battery time almost doubles (and I see it instantly). So, if there is some command, or some formula that could calculate it from the battery remaining, it would be as easy as using this sentence in the "desktop command execution widget" app. Any ideas? |
Re: [Request] Battery Expires Widget
Yes, it could actually show you what apps are draining your battery by way of how long the battery estimate shows when running or stopping certain apps. Surely someone out there can put this widget together?
Sadly I cannot as my skills are elsewhere :) |
Re: [Request] Battery Expires Widget
I think this app has the potential to be one of the most popular ever developed for the N900 if someone wants to develop it and get all of the respect for doing so.

Is there anyone working on something similar?

Re: [Request] Battery Expires Widget
Here's a previous post, where I posted a small shell script that prints out the remaining time in HH:MM. I suppose it could be quite easily used with something like Queen Beecon or Desktop Command Execution widget, to bring it on the desktop.
Gotcha: read the whole thread for why it (or at least this particular approach) will never be very accurate with the N900. |
