Iphone4 vs Htc Desire vs Nokia N900
Currently looking out for these 3 phones.. Feedback and comments welcome May be buying one of them at the end of the year.. ( A sidenote: Are the apps on maemo.org and repositories free or payable ? )
Iphone 4 pros: user friendly OS Trendy ? lol debatable huge app store Brightest screen of all cons: Situational problems when syncing with itunes Comparatively slower web browsing compared with Android and Maemo browsers No flash support - Must use 3rd party app Frash ? Cannot multitask properly - Only apps verified by apple are allowed No FM radio support HTC desire pros: User friendly OS coupled with HTC Sense 1ghz Snapdragon processor with integrated GPU Cons: Poor internal phone memory ( and all downloaded apps automatically stored there ) Must install 3rd-party app to transfer apps to MicroSD Lack support for most video formats Nokia N900 Pros: Hacker friendly OS (Maemo).. albeit not as user-friendly ( for eg: dual boot OS ) Only phone that natively supports Flash Active Maemo community Dedicated GPU Qwerty keyboard Internet browsing as you see it on your computer Vey excellent mutli-tasking capabilites Cons: Bulky Resisitive touchscreen ? ( i dun mind it, but it may for some ppl ? ) Camera not up to standard despite 5MP No MMS support ( only thru 3rd-party app ) Can only be bought thru Nokia store = very expensive =.= Nokia may not give full support to Maemo platform in the long term 600 mHZ processor as compared to the above phones.. but able to be overclocked to 1.1 GHz.. at own risk though |

source for purchase -> i think you can buy in many stores, even at Amazon. depends on which country you're in... in Europe this is not true. 600Mhz -> never a problem as long as it does its job well. no use if sluggish if you have 2Ghz running. just my 2 cents. wahlau. |
Re: Iphone4 vs Htc Desire vs Nokia N900
Although I love my N900, I don't recommend it to my friends anymore unless they really want HW keyboard and are really geeky or want such geeky device and don't care about the lack of commercial apps or games.
I recommend Samsung Galaxy S over iPhone4 or Desire also. 2 of my friends have it and it's fantastic. Overall, it's the best Android phone currently out imo. http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_i900...review-500.php |

Re: Iphone4 vs Htc Desire vs Nokia N900
nobody ever answered his question lol.
Yes, the apps are free, the only paid ones are in the "OVI Store", but the ones in the App Manager are all free. However, 95% of them are still in beta or in testing, so it's not fully developed, you can still use them though but ya, not many are very useful compared to the amount of crap u can get from the App Store. One of the other con for N900 is that it drains the battery really quickly. Also, 600Mhz is actually slow, you'll notice this if you run a lot of stuff like i do. So you'd find that you'd still have to overclock to 1GHZ just to run most apps in multi-tasking without lag. The support for it is quite poor too so only go for it if you REALLY like the phone. I only like it coz of the hardware keyboard, as i only use phones with a keyboard. It really depends on what you use your phone for. If you want to use tons of apps or games, go with the iPhone. Otherwise, get the N900. Alternatively, you can get the Nexus One. HTC Desire is old already, so get Nexus One if you have the money. Or, get the N900 and an iPod Touch like me, so you get the best of both from both worlds. Only difference between the iTouch and iPhone is you can't txt and call, but everything else is the same. |

Re: Iphone4 vs Htc Desire vs Nokia N900
If you have not been able to find the info on the N900 youīre asking for, I would strongly recommend you NOT to buy an N900. Itīs meant for people that know their way around the internet and do research after which they fix issues themselves. Canīt get through to the basics, for instance the question whether the repoīs are for free or paid? Stay away from it for it will probably cause you nothing but grief.
It is a nice machine though and I wouldnīt trade it for anything else atm. |

to be honest, the camera isn't that good. I dunno how good it is compared to the iPhone's camera, but it's not as good as i had hoped. I had a HTC Touch Pro with only a 3.2MP camera. But it's one of the BEST camera's i ever used on a phone. The quality is incredible, and i'm not exaggerating or making **** up by even a bit, i'm a camera geek and work with some photography shoots and i'm telling ya, the camera on that phone is AWESOME. I can take a picture of a car from a 3 story building, and the quality and zoom is so great that i can see the license plate clearly. Don't believe me? I'll upload a pic later for reference if you want, but it's just awesome. On the other hand, N900's 5MP camera sucks balls, it really does. And no, there's no country limitation to the apps you use, it's global. It's not like the App Store when you get certain app restrictions for certain countries (it doesn't matter anyway coz if u jailbreak it or pirate apps/games, it won't affect ya). |

I am just concerned about the limited multitasking capabilities of the iphone 4.. as i usually run more than 1 app at a time. Btw,if i aint really a geek (not really able to code software and stuff, just knowing how to download user-created apps), is it still fine for me to buy a N900? I've thought of that before..but i have no budget at the moment for both a phone and an ipod touch :( . |
