How to make leafpad the default text editor?

I simply cannot figure out how to make .txt files open with leafpad automatically. I've added "text/plain=leafpad.desktop" to /usr/share/applications/defaults.list but I'm obviously doing something wrong. Double-clicking on "try.txt" in the File Manager just gets me a list of possible apps (everything on the phone, as far as I can tell!) except leafpad. So the system doesn't even seem to know it's there.

Does someone out there know what I'm doing wrong?

you can set it as a default in filebox, and just use that instead of file manager. file manager sucks anyways. seriously. garbage. (okay it's better than what comes on some phones, but not being able to see the full file system???)

yeah i'm wondering the same too..however, i'm sure nokia has their reasons for not letting users in accessing the file system. as we know it, not all N900 users are power-users..

so, having access to file system might increase the risks of bricking the device if the user didn't know what he/she is doing or accidentally deletes/move/or modifies certain system files.. (this goes for non-techy users)..

hence here comes the pros of linux open source software (which is filebox in this case)..with it, power users can install it and then access the file system to do what they intend to do with it..

non-techy users can opt not to install it..lol..:D

Yeah, it's well known that the clueless are made more enlightened by hiding information they need to know from them. That's the philosophy of Linux -- protection through ignorance!

yeah i totally agree they probably couldn't get some manager to approve a real file manager, but that's the type of app that can make people like me believe in the platform.
even windows has options to show hidden and system files, and that is bad enough (to have it disabled by default) i think. There's an entire generation of idiots that doesn't know what a file extension is now.
Anyways, there isn't really any phone "more" for power users than the n900, so they really screwed up in my opinion.
