Very simple question: how to input '|' in N900 terminal?
I mean the pipe character |.
I know one method is to use ssh to connect to N900 and input it in PC side. But is there any direct way to do it? Thanks! |
Re: Very simple question: how to input '|' in N900 terminal?

The on-screen keyboard is OK for occasional use but slows you down.
If your typing uses lots of non-alphanumeric characters (e.g. shell scripting) then this thread will help. I have my terminal set up so that | ~ < > PgUp PgDn { } [ ] are all accessible as 'soft keys' from the bottom key bar without needing to open the virtual keyboard. |

As already said, you can simply use the Symbol keyboard: call it by pressing the blue arrow and then Ctrl (Sym).
If your Sym keyboard hasn't the | symbol, then you can manually edit it and add all the symbols you want, just install Modify Your On-Screen Keyboard Layouts (http://maemo.org/downloads/product/Maemo5/scv-reader/). BTW version v0.0.2-2 of that app has an annoying bug, so you should use the perfectly functional version in Extras-Testing: http://maemo.org/packages/package_in...reader/0.0.4-1 |

Hi, thank all of you for your help!
I found the reason why I cannot activate the on screen keyboard. I installed MSCIM for my mother tongue input, and it 'take over the input interface from the default hildon input method.' The link below clarifies it, #21. http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...453#post522453 However, your methods are useful as well. I will try them when necessary. |

You can remap your hw keyboard. There is an article about in the wiki.
For example, you could create an Fn key combination to do this. |

It hit me coz of After installing mscim-googlepinyin im, virtual keyboard won't show up. And since then I never used virtual keyboard, i was storing |{}`<> in text file, and cutting it when needed... Yesterday just looked in echo manpage and found it out Code:
echo -e '\0174' |
