Broken LCD screen

For some reason my LCD screen just got cracked today..

No keys in my pocket or anything else..

Well my touchscreen is in mint condition ( except for 2 small scratches ) but not in the area where the lcd is cracked

Now the options i came up with were:

1. Go to Nokia Care Point and let them sort it out ( warranty? )
2. Buy a new LCD Screen and replace it myself?

Since i bought it in Feb 2010 the warranty with nokia isn't over yet? Right?

Well hope tohear some good advise of other unlucky ppl who dropped/cracked there LCD screen.

Hi,

Sorry to hear that. I doubt the warrany will cover that since screens dont ushally crack by themselfs.

Is it just the glass/touch screen thats cracked or is the LCD screen punctured as well?

In any case, this is the only site i know of that can help you, but i see the LCD screen is out of stock.

Good luck =)

If you touch the screen from side to side you don't feel anything, you can just see some minor stripes( 3 of them ) and a somewhat orange glow ( same size as the crack )

when i turn the screen on i can see the full crack and some of the screen is black and other parts are just weird ;)

I think you should atleast talk to the nokia carepoint before you do anything. Ask them which parts are shot and how much they will charge to fix it. Then make the decison to turn it in or fix it yourself. :)

Do you know if the touch screen is broken too?

It sounds to me like its the LCD screen thats broken, like you said.

I wouldnt know how hard it is to change the display, though.

changing the display isn't that difficult, provided you get a good display from a good vendor. I used mobile-phone-lcd for mine, proper MP2.0 display. swapped it out in just a few minutes.

If you've cracked your touch window assembly (the flexible part that you physically touch with a finger or a stylus), then you'll have to replace that as well - which I had to do in my case. Mobile-phone-lcd has these as well. Don't eBay one, you'll be angry at how long it takes to get to you and the quality and condition of the part itself. eBayed ones are cheap cloned garbage with parts and pieces missing. The touch window assembly I purchased from mobile-phone-lcd included the speaker earpiece and a well-made flex cable, unlike the cheap chinese counterparts.

Just my $0.02 :>

Would be cool if we can replace the resistive with Capacitive multitouch lol

First I need a controller chip to replace the onboard stupid single touch controller. Bloody Nokia, if they just put a multitouch chip on the board from the start then we would have had a good resistive touch device.
