[Firefox Mobile] [Fennec] test day Sept. 10th

Mozilla QA is holding a test day for Firefox Mobile. We would love the assistance of some adventurous owners of n900/n810/n800 devices.

If you are interested we will have the Mozilla QA and mobile developers present on irc.mozilla.org. Don't have an IRC client? Use mibbit webirc. We will be around on the 10th from 7:00am PDT (14:00 UTC) and wrap up around 5:00pm PDT (04:00 UTC, Saturday).

For info on installing nightly builds see http://starkravingfinkle.org/blog/20...maemo-updates/

For more details on the test day see http://groups.google.com/group/mozil...e062c5f04e1f7e

Re: [Firefox Mobile] [Fennec] test day Sept. 10th

Well, much as I'd like to, I probably won't be on during that time, so I'll be posting my thoughts here:
1. I do like the hidden sidebars, though it wasn't immediately obvious how they worked. As soon as I watched the little instruction "video" however, I found it extremely easy to work.

2. I would like to see a keyboard shortcut(space would be good) that shows/hides all three sidebars at once.

3. The one problem I have with it: Auto-page-resizing. Its fine when the site conforms to a proper 800px-wide screen, but when you have a site that doesn't(like a forum with large images), Fennec seems to scale it out to fit. This makes all text too small to read, and you have to enlarge it again using the zoom keys(double tapping just makes it a lot larger, not back to "100%"). For one page, this is fine... but when browsing a too-large forum, you have to do it on every single page. This kind of ruins it for me.

4. HTML drop-down menus bring up that huge slider. I know that this is what the official browser does, but I don't really like it. And on top of this, the page is zoomed in the process(and doesn't zoom back when you finish making a selection!)
I'd prefer either a regular drop-down box like you would see on Firefox, or -at least- have it zoom back to your previous level after making a selection.

5. I haven't tested this thoroughly, but making sure that all Javascript stops within 5 minutes of the screen turning off would be a very good thing. If this -doesn't- happen, then leaving a window open could result in a quickly discharging battery, which happens with the osso official browser.

6. I would like to see a few more settings in the settings page; a proper set of proxy settings would be nice, as would a pipelining switch/value.
Yes, I know you can access these via about:config, but having a couple more easily accessible would be nice.

I just joined and they said me that maemo4 devices aren't supported.
The nightly beta will install, but won't run because it is linked against the wrong libstdc++
So, don't bother if you have an N8x0

Sorry about that, I was unaware of the platform requirement changes. Looks like it might be sorted out in bugzilla.mozilla.org # 595170.
