HPING2 Install "Incompatible Application Package"
I have tried to install Hping2 on my N900 from https://garage.maemo.org/projects/hping2/ but I get the following error:
"Incompatible Application Package" I am running PR 1.2, can anyone please provide some ideas why the install is failing on the N900? Thank you |
Re: HPING2 Install "Incompatible Application Package"
Any thoughts?

Re: HPING2 Install "Incompatible Application Package"
Have you tried it with xterm?
I can't exactly tell you why this happens, it goes beyond my knowlege in maemo, but you should be able to install being root under xterm. |
Re: HPING2 Install "Incompatible Application Package"
I have tried installing it via the command line (xterm), but had no luck.

Re: HPING2 Install "Incompatible Application Package"
But as root? I ran across somethign like this a while ago.

Re: HPING2 Install "Incompatible Application Package"
yes, I did try this as both root and the regular user but no luck.
I tried... "apt-get install hping" "apt-get install hping2" "apt-get install hping3" All with no luck |
Re: HPING2 Install "Incompatible Application Package"
No, no.
Put the file under MyDocs, cd there, and use dpkg -i Somethign like this: sudogainroot cd /home/user/MyDocs/ dpkg -i crazypenguin.deb |
Re: HPING2 Install "Incompatible Application Package"
luiscesjr,
Thank you very much for your response, that last trick worked! The only strange message which I got was when installing was "Selecting previously deselected package hping2" but it continued fine. It would be great to know why the installation did not work the normal way through the package manager, but I'm glad it worked this way. |
Re: HPING2 Install "Incompatible Application Package"
Well, as I said, with that I have no idea =)
Good to know it worked! And yeah, sometimes I notice this too when installing apps from xterm. Maybe it's just a cliche. |
Re: HPING2 Install "Incompatible Application Package"
This is mildly off topic but it's related to the "incompatible application package" error.
If you get that error when attempting to install a deb file built using Qt Creator (Maemo project) on Nokia Qt SDK it can be because the debian control file has "Section: unknown" instead of something like "Section: user/development" or "Section: user/office" etc. More info here: http://developer.qt.nokia.com/forums/viewthread/1972/ |
