PandaBoard: OMAP4 counterpart to beagleboard?

Check this out:
http://pandaboard.org/

OMAP4 development board (with dual-core Cortex A9 goodness) that looks like the successor of Beagleboard. Its not yet available to buy in quantity but there appears to be an early adopter program.

You might consider it a high-end successor in the mobile space, but the BeagleBoard has really grown far outside just a low-cost development board for mobile application software. I don't believe the PandaBoard is geared at having the same reach into new device types and to hardware hobbyists---but if what you are interested in is getting the ability to develop mobile applications and application stacks cheaper and earlier than buying closed mobile phones, the PandaBoard might be just right for you!

Thanks for clarifying! One question I have is whether TI is involved in PandaBoard? From their website it looks like it is an independent effort but I am wondering if some TI employees are involved (in their personal capacity perhaps). And is there relation between the group who developed beagleboard and the group who are developing pandaboard?

Yes. Several TI engineers are part of the pandaboard.org effort - help develop the platform and community. And we do try to work closely with our beagleboard friends.

I wonder how much it'll cost, and how long until hobbyists can buy it...

We expect it to cost a little under $179 at distributors and will be publishing ordering information in the next couple of weeks. Stay tuned!
