Get files from bricked n900
 

Hello, so i gave up with my n900 coz the USB port is broken and multiboot messed up so i cant boot anything.

But, im hoping to get the files in the eMMC... is there any way to extract the files? (like disassembling the phone and stuff?)

You mean like unsolder the flash chips and resolder onto a working N900 or something?

Well, if that level of hackery is involved it would be much easier to simply re-solder the USB connector.

whatever it takes, i just want to access my files (videos, photos, documents). if i could revive my n900 by re-soldering, why not?
but i have to have some sort of guide or something.. thank you

I would try and Fix the OS then use something like TinySMB to get the files over WiFi

First step is fixing the USB port. This is easy and cheap. Take it to your nearest cell phone market and find someone with a heat gun - they'll be able to reseat it for you in just a few minutes. Don't try and do it with a soldering iron, you'll just damage it further.

Once you've done that and given it a charge, flash the "kernel" only and reboot - all will be well again. No loss of files.

fix the OS? not gonna happen if i dont have a PC connection (which is the whole point of wanting to re-solder).

i used multiboot but somehow messed up with nitdroid's and maemo's boot number or something, now boot files of maemo can't be found.
files are still in the eMMC because i tried to access shell through multiboot and ls-ing returns folders and files. but i cant cd to anywhere else because keyboard isnt fully supported in shell mode.

the main problem is: the detached port, the metal data strips that look like

at the top of the port, they're all broken. it may be impossible to even transfer data (but not electric charge for charging). I want to buy a new spare part but in canada i dont think i can find one for sale. im gonna try anyway..
