MeeGo Dual Boot Not For Consumers

I was very disappointed to hear that Nokia said that dual boot would not be aimed at consumers, this means that is bog standard UI for MeeGo that will be available.

Im still hopeful though that with this will come something else good in PR.1.3

Is it really necessary to start a whole new thread about this?

Or was it just an excuse to promote your blog?

this has already been covered in n+1 threads.

what difference does it make if nokia aims dual boot to consumers? will the consumers be creating multiboot configurations or using ones created by developers?

That is simply a way of saying that we won't support it officially, I really wouldn't worry too much about it.

What for do you wish next? Partition editing for consumers?
You can't give such stuff to consumers on a mobile phone. They'd brick the device in no time, or at least get frightened about that weird new thing that appears when you switch on. It would become a support nightmare.

Be happy that PR 1.3 will make it easier to create dual boot, but only if you know what you do. Consumers couldn't care less, anyway.

Re: MeeGo Dual Boot Not For Consumers

and what good would supporting dual boot mean while meego was never intended to be supported in n900.

support: you can call to nokia if you have problems, nokia will ship you new handset if something just doesn't work etc...

yeaa, the duel-boot is meant for developer., so you just sit & wait till it is released within days and leave the reset to developers..;)

Re: MeeGo Dual Boot Not For Consumers

here we go again.

why cant people learn! Nokia has always said that Meego and harmattan will never officially be supported on n900. Now some internal nokia DEVELOPER said PR1.3 will have multiboot and the endless discussions starts again.

This multiboot was is ment for developers/geeks and not for endusers ok get it!? Also meego 1.1 is for developer/geeks NOT endusers cause it has not even a full UI for configurations and is stil a bit slow. Btw. not even nitdroid is in a state for endusers.

Endusers should stick with official maemo firmware if endusers doesnt like this fact sell the phone to one who prefer full linuxstack instead of bloated android.

who cares what nokia say or do.

Nothing is for customers. deal with it or through out your nokia phone through the window ;)

Re: MeeGo Dual Boot Not For Consumers

let me state this as simple as I can....
Ok... Let me ask you! Meego 1.1 is intended for 'DEVELOPERS ONLY'
does nokia stop you from downloading and using it in your n900? NO!!
Now... Dualboot for n900 is intended for 'DEVELOPERS ONLY' would you think nokia will stop you from using it in your n900?
If anyone can't answer no for this question then you got a -9999 IQ and common sense.
