any way to make n900 more phone-friendly???

hi y'all, i m generally happy with my n900. dont think i d be temped by another phone until n9 comes out. i know n900 is not exactly being categorize as a smartphone. but i would still wanna see it more phone-friendly. for example if you missed a phone call or a text, i would like to see a notification stay on the desktop screen. any ideas to make it more like a usual phone? thanks

for text messages you can look at "conversations inbox desktop widget" and see if that can be something. but haven't seen anything for calls.

Top-left of the screen. The task switcher icon glows when you have a missed call or text waiting.

How about Call Notify. I don't see the need for it myself, but maybe it is what you are looking for.

i know. i just wish it was more like other phones you know with a indicator (a red dot or something) on the icon (say message or phone calls) on the main screen. that d be more straight-forward dont you think since the task switcher icon doesnt really tell you what's been added or what you have missed.

What's wrong with the LED notification?

If you want to distinguish between missed call/SMS/email then set the notifications to different colours with "LED Patterns".

It does... If you have a missed call and an SMS and an email, tapping it brings up an individual box for each notification. If you have 2 missed calls, it displays the last one then tapping that notification brings up the phone app and that tells you how many times a certain number called and lists separate ones, same for SMS

'callnotify' does this in your status bar, there was another application that would put notifications on the lock screen however the only thing I could ever get it to do was mess up my themes : )

Really though, you have the indicator light, sound, profiles, and various kinds of on screen notification, isn't this enough? - it seems to me like you are the one that needs to accept that things are not the same as your old phone and move on.
