[Asking Nokia or Game Devs] With the ease of transporting WebOS games, Why not make official Ports?

With the ease of transporting WebOS games, Why not make official Ports?

I am willing to pay for an official Maemo/ QT/ n900 version of any of the games people have been porting over from WebOS. I'm just curious as to why hasn't someone official thought of this already, or at least stated why it can't be done.

Just asking..

Cost.

Cost porting game over outweights the profit that would be gained from doing so.

EA and Gameloft will do it for MeeGo. Maemo isn't worth their trouble anymore sadly.

If we can do it this easy, then trust me it won't cost them that much

I'm sorry I don't understand what cost you are referring to? Developers cost, Licensing cost, Nokia's cost? If a talented programmer on this site managed to port WebOS games over in a couple of days with (i'm hearing) very little effort. What cost is involved? I doubt they would even have to advertise just put it up on the OVI store.. Please explain what cost you are referring to?

Porting cost depending on how the program was created. In the Palm Pre case the code is somewhat compatible. But other things may have to be re-done such as input methods. Not to mention most of those games are already at half the screen/resolution due to differences. So they would have to rescale everything for the N900. Then if they sell the game thru Ovi Store, that means Nokia takes a cut from the sale. In the end they'd have to charge something like 10-15 dollars (arbitrary value) since there's no guarantee that out of the already limited userbase of the N900 that everyone would buy the game.

Because a hacker port is different than a game company port (ideally). A game company porting their games over would hopefully take pride in what they're doing and not just do a straight dump (like some 360/PS3 cross platform games do). Otherwise why would they bother? You already have the hacker method.

Thank you for your quick answer, you probably have a better grasp of the business than I do.

Just one thing you said though makes me wonder....

Nah, I don't have a better grasp on the business. I just know that if a company is going port a game, they aren't going do a straight port for numerous reasons.

- customer unsatisfaction
- bad for their public image (omg look at that terrible game they put out)

And no I don't work for EA...but I am planning on applying for a job in the gaming industry.. based on this one careers at company site I found. Though it would require a relocation to the West Coast if I ever got the job.
