PR1.3: The Untangible Update
hello everybody
after this disappointing update at least for me i would like to ask about the issues which are still boring me with my device as i am a kind of end user and never used a linux based os ever...so everything i did to this device were only through this great community's help....THANK YOU if it's worth your help!! :) well #1 "contact details"..my old n91 device was able of editting each detail tag to anything i would like to use ex.of a contact name: fast food cell:8888 phone:0000 etc.... those details were replaced by diff fast food shops for instance instead of cell,it was kfc.....but when such contacts were transfered to my n900 device they took the above mentioned form losing the actuall identity for each detail in such contacts. #2 "my information"..i don't know what went wrong with this function as it was working fine but later 3 e-mails are not editable and can't be removed as well, leaving me with 2 e-mails are not usable anymore. #3 "profiles"..n.b.i use both 'crochik my contacts'&'tweakr'.but i'm still missing the use of who is ringing which was available in most of devices to set a specific person or group to be only ringing and any other call is silent. #4 "front camera"..n.b.i do use the fcam drivers provided by the community and the mirror app.but when using this app i can barely see someone like me on the screen. #5 "video calls"..n.b.'gtalk' is not used in my country.but truly even if it was available i would still looking for the ordinary video calling option as any other device having a front camera. #6 "wireless network"..n.b.im using 'vnc viewer' but still don't know how to transfer files from the pc to the n900 or viceversa by using the n900 BUT NOT the pc. #7 "koffice" i have downloaded a file named 'koffice-2.2.2.tar.bz2' of 54 MB size from the koffice official site but i still don't know how to install it 'after bunzipping it'. #8 "task manager" uptill now i dont know the processes running on my device and i do need it in a simple way as i have tried the x terminal and a 3rd party app from the community but non comforts me. #9 "duplicate application" right now when i use the 'search applications' app or try to add a desktop shortcut i do have 2 calender icons,2 contacts icons 'other than the pinky mycontacts of 'crochik'',2 conversations icons,2 e-mail icons...and some other duplicates. #10 "glogarchive" can't do archives!! #11 toooooooo short battery life time almost 2 to 3 hrs in use. *pr.1.3 *do know its a mini computer and not a cell phone device but having a mini computer which can't do what the ordinary cell phones do is a shameeeee even if it's only a built in function in the tablet. ********appretiate your help thanks all of you****** |

It does do phone work, just not what you expect it to do. I agree there's some functionallity missing but I can totally live with that because it brings me plenty of other things that *no other* phone can. Regards |
Re: PR1.3: The Untangible Update
#6 - one of many ways to do this, is to install a sFTP server on your PC and a sFTP client on your N900. Or you can use ftp from command line. I believe you can also copy files via Ovi Suite, though within limitations.
#11 - my experience is that battery life actually has increased throughout the phone's life. However, if I ever leave home with the application manager open, battery will be flat soon enough. I am sure that goes for any software that idle poorly. Anyway, I feel that the battery life is quite acceptable for the class of device it is. I used to have an iPaq PDA and it would last about an hour. I just wish the N900 would be less picky about what source it will choose to charge from at any given time. |
