[Announce] Icon themes for N900

Hi there,

since there has been no easy way for users to install and use different icon themes, I decided to do something about it.

I've coded application called "Theme Customizer" which makes it possible to customize your theme including changing current icon theme. Besides that I've created some icon themes so that users can actually try out how things are working and also that developers can grab the sources and start making their own icon themes.

Here are icon themes I've released so far:
Pleego Icon Pack
http://maemo.org/packages/view/pleego-icon-pack/

Plastic Icon Pack
http://maemo.org/packages/view/plastic-icon-pack/

an-Droid Icons
http://maemo.org/packages/view/an-droid-icons/

Humanity Icon Pack (originally packed up by CepiPerez)
http://maemo.org/packages/view/humanity-icon-pack/

Installing any of those packs will automaticly install Theme Customizer which can be launched from Settings -application.

Info about Theme Customizer can be found here:

would be great, if we could see the icons here, so that we don't have to install first :)

Now i feel i really need to get time to set up some icon-themes... Have big plans for the Faenza or Awoken icon-themes. But i am really busy IRL so i'll see when i can do this. ;)

Faenza is already being worked on it will be included in next update of my maemo-org theme and as a stand along packages once we get done with it.

Cool, easiest way to start is to get the source of an-droid-icons:
http://repository.maemo.org/extras-d...n-droid-icons/

And then just start adding / replacing icons with your owns. Finally you need to edit few files (search and replace "an-droid-icons" with your desired package name and also rename this folder to match to that:
/src/usr/share/icons/an-droid-icons -> /src/usr/share/icons/your-desired-package-name

Perfect! I think those two icon-themes are the best for the x-environment yet. I am using Awoken on my machine at home. ;)

Re: [Announce] Icon themes for N900

Hey D-Iivil,
I have the theme customiser installed, am using black plastic theme with my own icon set, (well actually it is the one andrewfblack and I are working on), and I notice when I go to settings, the hicolor icons appear, then the screen blinks and my icons appear. Is that as a result of the customiser? Would I need to install an standalone theme which included the icon pack and not use theme customiser to call the icons to avoid this happening?

Also, something you might know the answer to, if an app installs it's icon to the pixmaps folder, eg. guitar chords, instinctiv, will an icon from the icons folder be used ahead of the pixmap one? Not sure how to make the custom icons work for thos apps other than just replacing the onses in that pixmap folder.

Cheers.

No, this is result of Maemo 5 OS caching things stupidly. You need to switch your theme once to something else and then switch back to black plastic (using the maemo's own built in theme changer). That will clear the caches. I'd implement that function directly to Theme Customizer if I only knew how (the built in theme changer application is closed source so I can't copy & paste anything from there).

I don't know for sure, but I think the ones under "icons" -folder will override the ones inside pixmap -folder.
