Getting access to /home/user via usb
Hi Everyone,
The touchscreen of my N900 is not working anymore. I tried flashing to see if it helps but it did not. Now when i turn it on, it displays the welcome page and the regional settings. Since i could not use the touchscreen to click "save" button in regional settings page, I get stuck. I could not go to the Desktop page anymore where I could perhaps use the shortcut key to go to xterm and from there use the keypad to copy files from /home/user to /home/user/MyDocs. I need to get my files which I stored in /home/user. I have already copied some of my files from /home/user/MyDocs by turning on "USB Mass Storage" mode. I could not however get my files from /home/user. 1. Is there any way i can mount the partition of /home/user from my windows/linux machine via USB? 2. Is there an image I can perhaps use that will then after flashing, give me access to xterm? Thanks in advance for the help! |

Re: Getting access to /home/user via usb
1. Flash the rescue kernel.
http://wiki.maemo.org/Repartitioning_the_flash see solution 6 for more details 2. What do you mean by "access to xterm?" Is openssh not ok? Do you need USB networking? |

Re: Getting access to /home/user via usb
Through usb? No, i don't think so. You need to use SSH, which would mean opening x-term (ctrl shift x, apt-get install opensshclient or something i think) and then winscp on your computer. That gives you root access, you can do a full backup of the whole opt folder if you want, then just restore it once you get your device fixed

I strongly recommend read about sshfs

Re: Getting access to /home/user via usb
I have not tried this, but what if you did:
Enable RD mode boot to recovery mode copy/tar up what you need from /home into MyDocs partition or SD card (no idea if they are mounted automatically in this case) reboot mount MyDocs via USB enjoy your files Or, even better, while there install vnc server & then remote control your N900 from PC :) |
Re: Getting access to /home/user via usb
Create a script to copy your files from /home/user to your SD card
Copy the script to your SD card Put the SD card in you phone Boot your phone Press Crtl+Shift+X to open the Terminal Run the script to copy the files to the SD card Place the SD card in your PC Enjoy your files |
