N900 Not Charging completely

Hi All,

My N900 is not charging completely. It was working fine 2 days before. I kept it for charging overnight (it was not completely discharged). In the morning I noticed that only the amber light was flashing and not the green one. When I removed the charger the battery indicator showed 20% only. Now when I am charging it the amber light flashes the battery indicator works as usual but it is not getting 100% charged. The result is same with the USB chord as well. I had recently updated the firmware to 1.3. Is this a happening due to firmware upgrade or is this a hardware problem. I had bought the phone 10 months ago. Kindly help

Thanks

Re: N900 Not Charging completely

PR1.3 changed some battery charging stuff. The N900 now consumes an extra 80mA or so when connected to wallcharger. This extra has always been present with charging from a USB Host. As a result, if installed apps or cellular communication also cause alot of power consumption, the end of charge detection might not work, and it instead might settle at 98% or so.

As we know from before, the battery meter isn't accurate at all, so /please/ don't stare at it or make any conclusions from it...

Why it would consumes an extra 80mA? Any method to get rid of it?
And I notice that the battery meter is not as responsive as other phone (e.g galaxy s). It won't show the percentage climbing up from let's say 50%-51%...52%... until 97%. I can only know how many percent it eventually charge to after I unplug the charger for few minutes.

The USB chipset eats that much to keep communication up with the PC.

In PR1.3 it also keeps it up with wallchargers I've been told. The changelog mentions dedicated upstream charging port compatibility, which might mean it's kept on so it can tell if phone connected to PC with charging port that is active when PC is off is then switched on...

Wow, so this explains what happened to my phone last night.
It was the first day I got it, so I charged it via the computer USB and left it there over night (the battery was full). After I woke up, so about 9 hours after the battery was fully charged, the battery was around 30%. I looked at the charge history, and the CPU was mostly idle, while the battery discharged at a very linear level. I thought I had a bad battery or something.
