Wireless music to headsets?
 

What's the best accessories to listen to mp3's on the n800 wirelessly?

After I bought the thing I realize that the bluetooth part of the n800 does not play music/videos in bluetooth headsets. There has to be some kind of accessory attached to the headphone jack.

I'm familiar with bluetooth dongles that transmit bluetooth to headsets but those are usb. Do headphone jack dongles work well? There are nice dongles for the iPod...anything for the n800???

Portability is a huge deal. I'd like to be able to relax on a plane for 4 hours. Do any transmitters last that long?

A2DP support is on the official Maemo roadmap, but after watching their dev process for a few years, I feel that they are pretty long on promises and short on delivery. It might make sense to hold off on you purchase for a while though.

I bought a set of Philips bluetooth earbuds to use with my Samsung Blackjack, model VOX340. It comes with a bluetooth transmitter that plugs into the audio jack of your ipod (or N800) and works very well. Sound quality is excellent too. I use them at work for 8 hours turning them off and on frequently. I'd say 4 hours straight is reasonable.

(I realize that page doesn't mention bluetooth at all. Neither did the product description when I bought mine. I found mine for pretty cheap though so I took a chance.)

I use it with a pair of Motorolla HT-820 A2DP headphones. I'm quite lucky in that my headphones are expecting a pairing key of '0000' which is exactly what the transmitter sends. I tend to use the transmitter in little bursts of 20-30 minutes, but I haven't been keeping track of how long the battery in it lasts. Still, my gut feeling is that I get at least 4 hours of music out of this thing between charges.

I'm amazed that a bluetooth transmitter is unadvertised and included so inexpensively.

I look forward to the n800 offering A2DP but it's not worth the wait.

I have one of those infamous Logitech-with-a-box BT headphones; you know, the ones, also rebranded by HP, that will certainly break.

Well, mine haven't broken (sofar -- and in any case this dude has the answer for breakage: http://eastep.blogspot.com/2005/06/b...e-upgrade.html).

They work great, with anything that has a 3.5 mm audio out jack. You should be able to find them cheaply on the Bays, mainly because just about everybody despises them :D . To be honest, I'm kinda hoping mine will break soon, so I can build me that upgrade: After a few hours listening, they tend to hurt my ears.

Another solution for listening to music wirelessly is the Bluetake i-Phono. It is a larger style wrap around headphone that can come with a BT transmitter. I have it and use it for many of my mobile devices...

Thanks to all for your help. After trying different setups I'm back to plugged-in headphones.

I tried bluetooth and FM solutions but either way the sound quality is not comparable to using plugged-in headphones.

Bluetooth seems to lack the ability for music. Bluetooth does voice ok but music is another world. The difference is dramatic if you go back and forth between any bluetooth device and then wired through the headphone jack. Same thing in the car. When I wire the N800 to the audio jack it's glorious. Switch to bluetooth and the same music is there but it is less vibrant and lacks punch.

I set up the N800 with a Acoustic Research FM transmitter/headphone which plugs into the wall and it does very well - if I don't move around much. If there was a battery powered transmitter with this capability I'd be interested.
Unfortunately battery powered FM transmitters are really terrible.
