Flashing N900: CMT flashing failed

Hi,
I've been using my N900 for about a year now. A day ago I lost all the telephony services; it appeared ? at random, although it may have been after a software update. Googling around I found a number of posts that indicated flashing the brick might help.

I'm using Ubuntu 10.10, and the flashing process goes fine, right up to the end, when it reads : CMT flashing failed. It's reset all my applications, but the telephony services remain dead. FWIW, initially the 5 flashing dots on startup were going at a rapid and semi-random rate; they're now back to a sequential pattern.

I can't find any indication as to what's gone wrong. Do I need to use an alternative OS? I've appended the full output.

Reading through it I note my toy has a hardware revision of 2101, which seems to be a fairly early model. Is that relevant?

Code:

~/Downloads$ sudo flasher-3.5 -F ./RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin -f
[sudo] password
flasher v2.5.2 (Oct 21 2009)

Odd, it usually says erasing cmt first before it flashes it

I'm guessing your radio module died - Thus, it can't even talk to it to erase -OR- flash.

generic issue, a visit to nokia service centre should be done at earliest

Update: I returned it to the service centre last week. They rang yesterday; flashing it failed to fix the issue apparently (... ) so they've sent me back the brick and told me they'll ring if there's a software update that might help.

To be fair, the N900 was never released in NZ, and it sounded like they may have been a bit out of their depth, but brings a whole new meaning to service; You send us a brick, we can fix it to work like... a brick. Does buying over the internet void your warranty?

Mda-a... even Sony is better - at least they fixed my old PALM camcoder in USA, although I bought it is Switzerland.

Buying over the Internet doesn't, but buying in a country where selling isn't authorized might.

I know, I know. It just seems a bit silly that I could have flown around the world a couple of times while they had it, but because NZ never officially saw it on sale there is "no support"- or at least none worth having. Do you reckon if I posted it to a friend in Australia it'd suddenly become a solvable problem?

Re: Flashing N900: CMT flashing failed

Hey guys

I really need some help here.
I have the same problem.when i tried to reflash the phone with maemo flasher i got this error:CMT flashing error
I used the latest global firmware:RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM
Also tried flashing eMMC as well,no luck with that.

Is this software related or hardware?

Thanks
