Why isn't it possible to combine two apps together?
I'm not a programmer so idk how all this stuff works but sometimes I find it annoying and inconvenient that an app like, for example, fMMs or vertsms isn't synced up with the regular conversations app. So in the conversations app, if u wanna use vertsms u just flip ur phone vertical and there it is!
Or if you get a MMS it should be threaded with that person's name under the conversations app originally. Is any of this even possible? |
Re: Why isn't it possible to combine two apps together?
It would be possible, unfortunately, as I know, conversations app is closed source. Maybe small add-ons can be created, but it's probably a mess. Only Nokia can modify the app, but they won't. :(

Re: Why isn't it possible to combine two apps together?
I'm just a noob developer for N900, so don't know the details...
Open os doesn't mean all aps need to be open. On desktop I'm using nVidia proprietary drivers for my graphic card. The calendar widget is probably small enough for one man to replicate, and it doesn't integrate anywhere. Calling calendar is simple, but nothing is calling the calendar widget. Maybe it's more trouble than worth. Sure you can write a whole new app and replicate the functionality. The problem would be the integration. For example when you receive a new message, or tap on send im/sms in contacts. Maybe these could be solved by replacing the original with a new one. Don't know if there's someone who wants to replicate a whole app just to add some functions which are already implemented separately and work that way. |
Re: Why isn't it possible to combine two apps together?
My understanding is that the backend for the calendar is open, but the Calendar app and UI aren't. It should, therefore, be possible to write a new front end for the calendar database in musch the same way Nikolai has written a new wigdet to read it...
