Music browser
Hello everyone, I'm new here but have been doing a lot of reading of active and old threads and cannot find an answer to my question.
I would like to be able to use the N800 to play music, stored on my PC hard drive, on my stereo equipment. I have a Windows Vista PC hooked up to a Digital to Analog Converter and use J River Media Jukebox as my music browser. I do not want to listen to music on the N800 but only control my PC with the N800. Thanks for any info, Stan |
Re: Music browser
rdesktop or vnc viewer?

Re: Music browser
Thanks chf11.
I have tried both rdesktop and vnc viewer but cannot get the N800 to connect the the 192.168.1.1 (.100, .101, .102, .103 ...) server. Possibly I am not using the correct IP address or some other silly mistake ;~) Stan |

Linux: ifconfig Windows: ipconfig from a command prompt. Obviously you may still have firewall or similar issues to overcome - or you may not even have vnc or similar running on the desktop to connect to. |
Re: Music browser
I actually don't own an n800, but on the n900 you can directly access shared folders on your network from the media player.

Re: Music browser
mr id, thanks, I do not have vnc on my desktop. Should I install the VNC server version?
cfh11, how do I set up "shared folders"? Thanks, |
Re: Music browser
I think its just right click -> properties -> share this folder or something like that. Just do a google search for sharing folders in windows vista.

Re: Music browser
Yep, the N800 can also directly access shared folders on my network from the media player. Problem is it does not allow me to listen to my music through my stereo, only through the N800.
Still working on VNC which is only free for Windows XP, not Vista or 7. Thanks everyone for all your help. Stan |
